As of late, the most important event in the fashion world is The Sex And The City Movie. Last week, [after the premiere] there were FOUR newspapers with a picture of SJP on the cover, and i haven't seen many blogs that haven't posted about it yet. This is all great, and i'm not saying that i won't be one of the many queuing to see the film, but unfortunately, this is distracting attention away from what is called the 'Resort Collection'.
As soon as the link for the 'Resort Line' popped up inside a Style.com email, i was confused. I am relatively new to the world of fashion beyond shopping, and so had to resort to Vogue + *gasp* Wikipedia to help me define the third fashion season. It turns out, besides the Spring/Summer and the Autumn/Winter, there is a reasonably new semi-season, a 'cruise' or a 'resort' collection, and the more wearable sibling of the fashion seasons. The concept of the whole idea is a fashion line thats summery, will last throughout autumn and summer, and essentially, holiday-ready.
CHRISTIAN DIOR.
CHRISTIAN DIOR.
Dior is certainly the most elegant of the resort collections. Christian clearly took his inspiration from the sixties, and has incorporated it into the cruise-wear in a way that's very 5-star-hotel-in-Paris. Throughout the show, it was clear that Dior wanted to cater for all the Holiday-maker's needs. There was Day, Beach, Night and Formal wear, to make sure Dior is the full package. The collection is literally bursting with gorgeous colours, particularly Orange, Mustard, Fushia and Deep Purples. Paisley seems to be on its rebound [oh joy...] aswell as vertical stripes, bows and heavy, heavy jewellery.
VERDICT: 6/10. Classy, and fantastic colouring, although many of the formal dresses were too snow-bunny-ish and the prospect of Paisley has put me off...
Chanel.
What does amazing clothing, surreal scenery and hot male models create? A very, very jealous blogger. I totally agree with Laird Borrelli-Persson from Style.com observation of Karl's own style influencing the beginning of the collection, with his trademark black tie + shirts. Other influences was Coco Chanel's cream and black, and of course her tailoring and elegance. The whole collection was very rock and roll meets masculinity, elegance or tribal wear. It also played homage to the S/S 08 collection with Americana, featuring wide legged denim and pearls. As an extra, the collection featured possibly the NICEST chanel bag EVER, which not doubt will have its own post soon.
VERDICT: 9/10. Loved it. Loved it all.
Fendi.
I think what i liked about this was how it was so simple, it was extreme. It certainly isn't a groundbreaking collection, nor chanel-esque scenery, but the simplicity of the two combine to create a resort line of Gap-meets-seventies/sailor. I did adore the gorgeous long waves and simple makeup as seen on the models though. Its all neutrals, and in classic shapes, but oddly, is what i know i'd wear if i were rich enough to 'cruise'.
Verdict: 8/10. Liked the simplicity, loved the hair.
P.S-
I don't mean to yet again bore you with my excuses, but i am back for this week. Next week i will be on holiday, and so unable to post, but after that, and know my exams are over [oh the joy...], i should be back to normal.
Thanks for still reading, i will reply either today or tomorrow. :)
Have a good evening.

I love your sense of humor. I never thought of summer wear as being "snow-bunny-ish" so I got a giggle.
The Chanel collection appeals to me. In summer, I like pretty much anything that's comfortable and sexy without being too conspicuous.
Good write-ups, I like Dior and Chanel so far...still need to browse so many others.
Great post. I love the Dior collection and I agree about Chanel. I do think i know which bag you have in mind...
Dior was my favorite, those sweaters with the big bows were adorable (not that you posted them, but I saw them) still i need to check in on Chanel, you must post the bag! have fun on vacay!
All great choices.
i like fendi, & chanel best.

Great post, we will all just have to wait in anticipation for a week for another great post ;)
I am in LOVE with the colours of the Christian Dior show, they are so vibrant
Ruffles are back. Indeed. Um, I've noticed these puffy bottoms as of late in department starts around..I'm not sure if I like them or not.
What's your fav. item to wear for summer?
I don't get fendi, I guess they are not having a show? Chanel was good but not amazing. Dior really stood out, you can tell they put a lot of work into it.
THey say the movie was absolutely awful
hi dear!

I've been too busy to do a full lookthrough myself, so bloggers like you doing these recaps is really helpful.

Dior is too similar to his latest collection, not bad though. good reading.!

Keep it up!
I like the Chanel collection the most, more my style I guess.
very nice reviews! wow chanel's collection is suprisingly wearable and im loving that LBD @ fendi.
and love the explanation of resort wear, i did not know myself until last resort lines'. they turned out to be some of my favorite clothes of the year
have a great time while on vacation!
i don't know why but resorts rather bore me.. i don't get excited at all!
a bientot :)
Hiya molly, thanks for the comment! could you just add oui fashionista and keep couture cookies and lipgloss thanks!
The Chanel resort collection looks the most elegant and clean. I wish I could afford it!
Good to see you back. I have to say, it's going to take a lot to beat last year's Resort wear from pretty much every designer, and it looks as if the lines this year aren't doing much to change my opinion. :( Although I must admit, I will always ALWAYS have soft spot for Dior.
:)
I tagged you a little while ago by the way. Check my blog for details...

I just wanted to let you know I added you to my links and hope you add me to!
I like the chanel resort collection out of all of them.
ps. I'm so sad you want to ban leggings! I feel if they're done right, they're OK. at least don't give up on tights!
Molly,
thank you very much for the comment you left on 16 diaries.
RomanY is a wonderful person i do appreciate.
i do appreciate that my street styles photos gives you more than ever the desire to come in Paris
i just want to humanize fashion by showing that real people are more stylish and real life (in Paris) more beautiful than the fashion shows !
isn't it ?
Welcome to Paris !
i wish you a great evening and lot of happiness.
and if you need some photos, be my guest !

i love ruffles.
I really liked Dior
C.
I really like the Chanel collection. Simple, comfortable, and a touch of masculinity - I love it. The Fendi one was also really great too. I really like that ruffle dress. As for the Dior collection, I agree; the dresses were a bit too flashy and outrageous for my taste...
Great post! And I agree with you about Chanel!
My favourite is Fendi!
I finally saw Sex and the City this weekend. It's great! I'll probably see it again. :)
Ohh, the tiers on the Dior dresses are so fashionable. I love them.
chanel was amazing.
that has been my fave resort collection so far.
ahh i can only lust after those pieces!
i love all the ruffles! and the dior is amazing!
I find it so useful when somebody explains the meaning of certain fashion terms, it's really refreshing as well because I find that I don't have the guts to admit to not knowing what something means. I feel like in England we dare not ask questions. I did a write up on the cruise shows but not SATC funnily enough. And I LOVE SATC. I love the post and love your blog! Thank you xx
Hey Molly. Are you interested in a career in fashion design? If so then check out my blog for info on a great contest being held soon.
love the chanel one.
adoreee the fendi one! nice and chic
i loved fendi. dior was abit...disappointing? I think dior has got stuck in a rut ever since it for the past few seasons and there have been a lack of refreshing ideas
i'm loving the blue fendi dress but issac mizahri's collection is the fabbest!!
i like your blog much!
let's trade links!
let me know if you want it.
